How to prepare print-ready artwork

Good preparation makes a signage project clearer to price, easier to schedule and more likely to achieve the result you need.

01

Vector files are best for logos

Logos and text should ideally be supplied as vector files such as AI, EPS, SVG or PDF. Vectors scale to any size without losing sharpness, which matters for signs and vehicles.

02

Check image resolution at final size

Photographs need enough resolution for the size they will be printed. Large-format work is viewed from further away, so requirements differ, but a small web image will rarely be suitable.

03

Add bleed and safe margins

Bleed is extra image beyond the trim edge so no white lines appear after cutting. Keep important text away from the edges, especially on banners with eyelets or hems.

04

Convert text and confirm colours

Outline fonts or embed them in the PDF. If exact brand colours matter, supply Pantone or CMYK references, and remember screen colours can look different from print.
